Sprockids SD Community Leader

Sean Bascom
Board President &  Community Leader

Sean founded Sprockids San Diego in early 2018. It catalyzed around his idea to provide a peer group for his daughters to ride with and has grown into an amazing opportunity for his family to give back to their community. Sean found the stoke of mountain biking at a very young age and has been an avid rider since. The fitness, peace of mind and community that mountain biking brings keeps him riding regularly.  His qualifications include: Ride Guide, Level I Basic Skills, Level II Intermediate Skills and Level III Advanced Skills instructor from the Bike Instructor Certification Program (BICP);  he is designated as a Sprockids Leader from Giant/Liv Bicycles. Sean spent several years teaching in the US Navy and enjoys applying those skills to the program. He is grateful for the many incredible people and organizations that support the Sprockids San Diego program and enjoys stewarding it with his wife Ashley and two daughters, Braelyn and Teagan.

Jeff Monday
Treasurer

When Jeff isn’t at youth sports or working at Qualcomm you can find him on two wheels on dirt, usually with his son Kai and daughter Rya. He fell in love with mountain biking four years ago and never looked back.

Jeff saw the transformative power of Sprockids with his son Kai - it made him a confident and inspired rider, and more importantly a great trail partner. Jeff is excited to serve as the treasurer and to help bring the stoke of mountain biking to more kids around San Diego!

Eric Gasser

Board Member

Eric Gasser discovered his passion for mountain biking as a child between 1992 and 1994, and by 1995 he was competing in his first XC race just north of Lodi, California, where he later graduated high school. From 1995 to 2001, he raced strictly as an athlete, earning four State Championships in downhill and placing competitively in numerous XC NORBA events.

Between 1998 and 2000, Gasser founded the mountain bike team BigMaxx. What began with a limited budget quickly expanded to 40 riders across four countries—USA, Canada, Mexico, and Japan—supported by out-of-industry sponsors in nutrition and fitness.

After stepping away from competitive racing in 2001 to focus on a career in hospitality and finance, Gasser returned to riding more consistently in 2010. By 2017, his journey shifted toward coaching. He became involved with the United States Olympic Foundation, launched his own coaching business, MTBCornering San Diego, and earned a nomination for USACycling Coach of the Year. He also became a state-certified Teacher/Coach, completed his BICP II Certification along with other advanced backcountry and adventure riding certifications, joined the Ride Krew Board, and co-founded BikesOnline Racing as VP of Athlete Development.
